Mississippi: We Need Your Help!
When you think about hurricane Katrina what city pops into your mind? For most, it's New Orleans, but that needs to change.New Orleans is a large well known city, so everyone makes a big fuss when a little bit of the city is flooded. What about us in Mississippi? Long Beach, Pass Christian, Waveland, Gulfport, Biloxi, and many other cities have been almost completely destroyed. No one will take the time to stop and think that maybe a smaller town like for instance Long Beach, MS could have been one of the places that the hurricane killed, displaced, injured, starved, or ruined peoples lives. For some, everything they had and everyone they knew was gone and could never come back. So now when you think about all those people what do you think of when you think of Hurricane Katrina?
Nothing Will Ever be the Same
There were a lot of historical sites and houses and also scenery that will never be the same.Take for instance the Oaks, Magnolias, and other beautiful trees. The Harper McCaughan House, The Bouvier or Jefferson Davis Home, and many other historical homes were demolished and can never be the same.
Lives Lost but Never Forgotten
Many innocent people died and in Biloxi it was no different. This house is a sad yet empty reminder of how good things used to be even if they weren't so good. Now things are worse than ever for a lot of people. Families split up and broken, friends lost, new schools, and nothings the same.
Stay Strong and Have High Hopes
In Long Beach, MS, North and South of the railroad tracks, houses were flooded, blown away, and in some cases the only thing left was a slab of concrete and a few little stuffed toys or table legs reminding people that they are homeless with nothing but the few pairs of jeans that they evacuated with.
Biloxi, MS
If a picture is worth a thousand words than come up with 1,000 words to describe the pain we feel after losing our towns along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Not to hard considering the million things out of place in these devastating pictures.
Long Beach, MS
I know how it is to have your whole life swept away. I live every day wishing this was only a bad dream, but my wish will never come true. I am one victim of Hurricane Katrina whose life will never be the same.
